Federal Disability Laws
Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Title 42, Chapter 126, Subchapter II of the Americans with Disabilities Act applies to public services like Georgia State University. Additionally, because the university receives federal dollars, the regulations of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 also apply. Abiding by these two laws, Georgia State University provides equal access to all goods and services offered to all qualified persons with a disability. The faculty and staff of the university ensure that the programs offered, including extracurricular activities, are accessible to students with disabilities. AACE ensures access to students by collaborating with Georgia State community. Three general areas of focus include:
- architectural access
- aids and services necessary for effective communication
